Occupational health assessments - Nurse
One of the first steps in identifying a health issue and developing a support plan is an occupational health assessment. This will be a detailed analysis of a known issue and relevant advice or suggestions including how to facilitate an earlier and more sustainable return to work.
We’ll answer any reasonable questions for employers relating to the employee’s health and fitness for work, and provide you with a useful management report.
With our online forms and booking systems, we make the referral process as seamless as possible, keeping you informed every step of the way – no paper forms, no scanning documents, and no written consent forms. We’ll also obtain consent on your behalf, and guarantee to offer appointment availability within five working days.

Occupational health assessments - physicians
As well as our nurse led occupational health assessments, we offer appointments with occupational health physicians. Our physician appointments are perfect for employers looking for advice on a particularly complex issue, such as a member of staff likely to remain off sick for a long time or somebody taking ill health retirement.
Physician appointments follow the same format as nurse appointments. Most take place in our Smart Clinic, meaning you and your member of staff don’t have to worry about travelling long distances to see a doctor, and we’re able to offer impressive appointment availability for our service.
If you’re signed up to our enhanced+ package you’re entitled to occupational physician appointments at no extra cost. One of our senior occupational health advisors or management team will assess the individual and make the decision to escalate this to a physician if they feel necessary.
If you’re on the essential, enhanced or pay-as-you-go services, you can access one of our occupational health physicians for £400, to include a full report and up to six referral questions.

Musculoskeletal assessments
At times, occupational health advice is needed for very specific types of conditions. If your member of staff is suffering from a condition relating to bones or muscles, this service is perfect for assessing their working capacity.
We’ll assess common conditions such as back pain, broken bones, ligament damage, repetitive motion injuries, tendinitis, tennis elbow and tension neck syndrome, considering what barriers are in place that will prevent them from carrying out their working duties, and if necessary, suggesting adaptations that can be made that would allow them to return to work sooner.
Our musculoskeletal assessments work in exactly the same way as our occupational health assessments, but the clinician involved will be an occupational physiotherapist. You’ll still be able to make a full referral using our online system, and ask us medical questions relating to the employee’s fitness to work.
Using our revolutionary new video app, we’re able to conduct our musculoskeletal assessments remotely, meaning that your staff don’t have to make lengthy uncomfortable journeies to a clinic in order to complete an assessment.
This is ideal for staff with chronic pain or mobility issues.

Cognitive function assessments
Understand an employee’s way of thinking so that you can better support them at work. Suitable for any employee, including (but not limited to) those with neurodivergent traits.
The service emulates the (much more expensive) option of a workplace needs assessment provided by other organisations.
Our cognitive function assessment will evaluate those with neurodivergent traits or a neurodiversity diagnosis, helping the employer and the employee to identify ways of supporting them at work.
This service is just £290, and will be discounted by 50% if the employee doesn’t complete the screening assessment.

Pre-placement screenings
Before an employee begins working in their new role for your organisation, it’s important to ensure that they’re fit for the proposed role, and any health risks are addressed.
Referring an employee to us for a pre-placement screening is easy – just select the member of staff on your client area or send us their details, and we’ll do the rest.
The employee will receive a questionnaire to complete immediately, and if required we’ll them schedule them into our Smart Clinic to discuss any health concerns that may affect the member of staff’s fitness for work. Shortly after you’ll receive the fit for work certificate.

Online CBT
We have developed a specialist online cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) programme in conjunction with Beating the Blues.
Online CBT helps your staff to manage how they feel by demonstrating the links between their feelings and what they do, think and say.
The course consists of 8 sessions, with 3-5 modules, with an aim to complete a module every other day. However staff can manage this in their own time, and complete this at their own speed, always being able to save their progress and pickup where they’ve left off.
The programme is all online, and can be used on a smartphone, tablet or computer with a stable internet connection.

Virtual GP
At the Smart Clinic we believe in speed and convenience. Absenteeism is an issue, and as an employer you want to keep staff absences as short and infrequent as possible. We also know how difficult and time consuming it can be to see a GP, which only prolongs the issue.
Our virtual GP service resolves this problem. It’s a revolutionary new way of seeing a doctor without taking time out of work or travelling long distances. With the virtual GP, every member of staff can see a doctor within 20 minutes from anywhere that has signal.
Using a smartphone, tablet or webcam enabled computer, your members of staff can book an appointment and see a doctor within minutes, without even needing to leave their place of work.

Return to work questionnaires
We know the importance that our clients place on keeping in touch with members of staff whilst they’re absent. However this doesn’t end the day that your employee walks back into work.
It’s important to schedule return to work meetings between the employee and a member of HR or management. This helps to ensure the employee feels supported back into the workplace, is provided with access to any adjustments that may be appropriate, and has the opportunity to discuss any concerns.
Structuring a return to work interview can be tricky, and it is helpful to be as prepared as possible beforehand. That’s why we have developed a return to work questionnaire service that provides your employee with a link to a questionnaire that they can complete and submit to their referrer in plenty of time.
We will contact your employee on your behalf, and present the questionnaire to you in real time once it has been completed by the employee.

Individual stress risk assessments
In this innovative new service, the Smart Clinic will use well recognised and validated mental health assessment tools to provide you with a report on an employee’s current status in relation to mental wellbeing and stress.
This service helps an employer to identify an employee’s current mental health and resilience, by providing a couple of numeric scores, with categories associated to them benchmarked against the general population.
The assessment will also help to identify any specific risk factors that can be addressed to support an employee with their levels of stress. Coupled with an optional follow-up report several months after implementing any support measures, this creates a powerful comparison tool to see if an employee’s wellbeing has improved as a result of your support, or input from the Smart Clinic.
This service can be accessed immediately, regardless of whether you currently have a package with us or not. If you would like an account setting up to access this service, please contact us today.

DSE self-assessments
If your staff use display screen equipment such as laptop computers or screen-monitors, then as an employer you will need to ensure compliance with the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992.
Our DSE self-assessments will check that an employee’s ergonomic setup is appropriate and suitable for the role. It will cover areas of the workspace including a screen, computer mouse, keyboard, lighting, chair and desk, to ensure that the setup isn’t likely be causing or contributing to any health issues.
This service will ask the employee to complete a questionnaire, and we’ll use the responses to create a report automatically and instantly, which details risk factors and any follow-up actions that may be necessary. Because the service doesn’t involve an appointment, it is an extremely fast and convenient way to aid you in managing your employee’s ergonomic setups and aid with any risk-assessments you may need to do.

Mental health first aid
One in ten young people experience a mental health issue at one time. Amongst adults in the UK it’s responsible for 91 million lost working days, costing employers £34.9 billion every year according to Mental Health First Aid England.
Just a few simple steps could help you to dramatically reduce these figures in your organisation, whether it’s your employees, clients or students.
Our training and consultancy is here to support you to manage wellbeing proactively and minimise the impact of mental ill health on work and life. We’ll work alongside you to deliver training that complements and enhances your existing wellbeing strategy if you have one…if you don’t, we’ll get you started on that journey and guide you along the way.
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training courses teach people to spot the symptoms of mental health issues, offer initial help and guide a person towards support.
We don’t teach people to be therapists, but we do teach people to listen, reassure and respond in a crisis, or even potentially stop a crisis from happening.
Instead of hosting a clinician’s visit at your place of work, you can nominate a member(s) of staff to attend one of our mental health first aid training courses, and become a fully qualified mental health first aider.

Ill-health retirements
We offer the occupational health physician support necessary to complete an ill health retirement application.

This means we will take over any hassle involved on your behalf, and see the process through to completion.
