Occupational health assessments - Nurse
One of the first steps in identifying a health issue and developing a support plan is an occupational health assessment. This will be a detailed analysis of a known issue and relevant advice or suggestions including how to facilitate an earlier and more sustainable return to work.
We’ll answer any reasonable questions for employers relating to the employee’s health and fitness for work, and provide you with a useful management report.
With our online forms and booking systems, we make the referral process as seamless as possible, keeping you informed every step of the way – no paper forms, no scanning documents, and no written consent forms. We’ll also obtain consent on your behalf, and guarantee to offer appointment availability within five working days.

Occupational health assessments - physicians
As well as our nurse led occupational health assessments, we offer appointments with occupational health physicians. Our physician appointments are perfect for employers looking for advice on a particularly complex issue, such as a member of staff likely to remain off sick for a long time or somebody taking ill health retirement.
Physician appointments follow the same format as nurse appointments. Most take place in our Smart Clinic, meaning you and your member of staff don’t have to worry about travelling long distances to see a doctor, and we’re able to offer impressive appointment availability for our service.
If you’re signed up to our enhanced+ package you’re entitled to occupational physician appointments at no extra cost. One of our senior occupational health advisors or management team will assess the individual and make the decision to escalate this to a physician if they feel necessary.
If you’re on the essential, enhanced or pay-as-you-go services, you can access one of our occupational health physicians for £400, to include a full report and up to six referral questions.

Musculoskeletal assessments
At times, occupational health advice is needed for very specific types of conditions. If your member of staff is suffering from a condition relating to bones or muscles, this service is perfect for assessing their working capacity.
We’ll assess common conditions such as back pain, broken bones, ligament damage, repetitive motion injuries, tendinitis, tennis elbow and tension neck syndrome, considering what barriers are in place that will prevent them from carrying out their working duties, and if necessary, suggesting adaptations that can be made that would allow them to return to work sooner.
Our musculoskeletal assessments work in exactly the same way as our occupational health assessments, but the clinician involved will be an occupational physiotherapist. You’ll still be able to make a full referral using our online system, and ask us medical questions relating to the employee’s fitness to work.
Using our revolutionary new video app, we’re able to conduct our musculoskeletal assessments remotely, meaning that your staff don’t have to make lengthy uncomfortable journeies to a clinic in order to complete an assessment.
This is ideal for staff with chronic pain or mobility issues.

Mental health assessments
Our mental health assessment service provides a full occupational health assessment for those suffering with mental health related absences. Our fully trained mental health specialists will assess your member of staff, and produce a full report advising on the individual’s fitness for work, and answer any specific occupational questions you may have.
The referral process works exactly like our other assessment services. Once you have discussed with the member of staff, you can make a referral via your admin client area which will get sent straight to us. No consent form is required, we’ll take consent on your behalf, and keep you fully informed of the progress as we gain consent, book an appointment and produce a report.
The assessment is a two-step process – initially we’ll provide your member of staff with an interactive cognitive test, which can be completed on a computer or smart phone. Following this, the member of staff will have access to book themselves in for a virtual appointment with one of our mental health clinicians, where we will discuss the results further and prepare a report for management.
With our remote appointment service, staff can use our app to have a video consultation with our mental health team. This means they don’t need to make lengthy journeys, deal with parking or public transport, or sit in waiting rooms.
We know that making a mental health referral to us is designed to be a supportive measure, so we make the process as simple, hassle free, and helpful as possible for the employee.

Pre-placement screenings
Before an employee begins working in their new role for your organisation, it’s important to ensure that they’re fit for the proposed role, and any health risks are addressed.
Referring an employee to us for a pre-placement screening is easy – just select the member of staff on your client area or send us their details, and we’ll do the rest.
The employee will receive a questionnaire to complete immediately, and if required we’ll them schedule them into our Smart Clinic to discuss any health concerns that may affect the member of staff’s fitness for work. Shortly after you’ll receive the fit for work certificate.

We provide an employee assistance helpline to all organisations covered by one of our packages, or as a standalone service.
It includes several ‘frontline’ services for your employees who need advice or support quickly, such as financial, legal and health advice, or emergency counselling.
As well as giving access to emergency mental health support, there is also a range of practical day-to-day advice available. You and your employees will be able to speak to a legal advisor, gain financial information and speak to health professionals for any lifestyle and wellbeing advice.

Counselling
Our specialist counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy gives your employees confidential access to a specialist therapist.
Our therapists work with employees suffering from a wide range of issues including depression, relationship problems, anxiety, stress and bereavement. We’ll help you to work through negative thought patterns or traumatic experiences by working on some coping mechanisms.
Staff can self-refer to our Smart Clinic confidentially, or can be referred by their employer or one of our advisors. If you aren’t on a package that includes counselling or CBT, you can access our therapy for just £50 per session.

Stress coaching
We’ve developed a unique course of stress coaching, designed as an early intervention support service for employees showing symptoms of unmanageable stress. Our specialist therapist will prescribe some techniques, exercises and thought patterns that will help your employees to get on top of their stress.

Stress management workshops
Within any profession stress can be one of the highest risk factors for employee ill health, low morale and poor productivity.
We offer a range of proactive services designed to identify the early symptoms of stress and teach your employees to handle these symptoms effectively, including a stress management workshop.
One of our experienced occupational health nurses will visit your place of work and offer group or individual training on managing stress. You’ll be provided with information on the origins of stress, how to identify it, and techniques to help reduce levels of stress.

Health checks
Performing health checks on your workforce can be one of the most popular and beneficial ways to identify health concerns, and resolve them before they become too serious.
One of our qualified nurses will spend a day on site, performing full health MOTs with your team. We don’t just provide with the generic ‘stop smoking’ or ‘cut down on alcohol’ advice, we spend time with your workforce to get to the route cause and develop a personalised action plan.
In some instances we can also provide anonymised summaries to organisations to give them a general overview of their workforce, and any areas where they could implement initiatives to improve health and wellbeing.

Massage treatment
A massage can be a simple, but very well received perk for your employees. As well as physiotherapists our musculoskeletal team also consists of massage therapists, trained to find areas of tension and help to relieve this through massage.
As well as a boost in morale, our massage therapist will help to ease aches, strains and pain from former injuries.
We can arrange a day of massage treatment in a flexible format, ranging from short 10-15 minute sessions on neck and shoulders, to a full body massage lasting an hour. Ill-health retirements
We offer the occupational health physician support necessary to complete an ill health retirement application.
After an initial triage or assessment with one of our occupational health advisors, if your member of staff is likely to be eligible for an ill health retirement we’ll arrange for an occupational health physician registered under the necessary pension scheme to perform an independent assessment, and complete the necessary paperwork to progress the ill health retirement.
This means we will take over any hassle involved on your behalf, and see the process through to completion.

Anxiety management
We have a team of clinical staff specialising in helping customers to manage their anxiety.
Whether you have worries around Coronavirus that you can’t control, or you’ve suffered from anxiety in the past, our anxiety management self-referral service can help.
Our specialist practitioner will take time to understand your situation, and provide therapeutic interventions and coping mechanisms, that will ensure your anxiety doesn’t take over.
